Vegan Kofta

Has anyone tried lamb or beef kofta before?

Well, I tried 'vegan' kofta yesterday... and it was the most yummy thing I'd ever tasted!! I found a recipe online for it!

http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=330565

Ingredients

50g Pea Flour (or gram Flour)
2 Yams
8 broccoli florets
half a medium onion sliced thinly
Handful of frozen peas
1- 2 tsp curry spices
Water
Oil for frying

Directions
Boil the yams for 15 minutes until soft. Drain and mash with a potato masher.
Partly steam the broccoli florets.
Chop the onion into small bits and mix into the mashed yam and add your spices. Mix well.
Add the Broccoli and peas to the mashed yam and mix up - try to get the yam to coat everything without breaking up the broccoli, but it certainly doesn't matter if you do.
In a separate bowl add water to the pea flour, stirring all the time, until you get a thin batter mixture - same consistency as you'd get for a pancake batter.
Heat some oil in a frying pan about and inch deep.
Take lumps of the yam mixture and form into ball shapes about the size of a ping pong ball.
When the oil is hot enough dip each ball into the batter mixture, coating well and carefully drop into the oil. Cook for 3-5 mins on each side.
Remove and drain well.

This makes about 20

Number of Servings: 20

Gram flour is a flour made from ground chana dal, a legume otherwise known as chickpeas. It is also known as chickpea flour, garbanzo flour, or besan (Bengali: beshon).
